Youth

Compass Youth

Cross of Life and Prince of Peace have teamed up to have joint Confirmation and youth programming. Just like our faith, a compass both grounds where you are and guides where you are going. And the faith relationships we build during our middle and high school years have significant impact on our life-long journey with Christ and with his church.  We encourage all families with youth 6th – 12th grades to participate fully in Compass Youth events! The group meets weekly (alternating between Cross of Life and Prince of Peace) and lunch is provided. See below for some details about the program.

Middle School Confirmation and Wayfinder High School Group

The goal of our confirmation program is to prepare our young people for Affirmation of Baptism, a special opportunity for them to stand in front of the congregation and profess their faith as they grow in maturity and independence. Our program is designed to help them understand how God is calling them through baptism to live out their faith in their daily lives with prayer, scripture, worship, personal integrity, and service to their family, friends, local community, and global community. Confirmation is a two-year program, usually beginning in 7th grade, but it is open to any youth above 7th grade. The Wayfinder group for high schoolers is a chance for older youth to hang out while the middle schoolers are in confirmation.

Service Projects and Church Involvement

Compass Youth assist in a variety of service projects. One example is helping with Roswell’s 32nd annual Rivers Alive cleanup efforts. Unless there is an age restriction by the organization, youth are welcome to participate in all Cross of Life service opportunities. In addition, youth participate in the weekly worship services in the band and as readers and as part of the gospel processionals on church holidays. They also help as Vacation Bible School leaders, assist with activities for Connections Sunday, and lead the Annual Egg Hunt for children on Easter morning. Each year, Compass Youth leads worship two Sundays (one Sunday at Cross of Life and another Sunday at Prince of Peace). This event is much enjoyed by the congregation, and youth preach, sing, read lessons, and lead the worship service.

Fellowship Events, Lock-ins, Mission Trips, and Retreats

Fellowship activities vary according to what seems like the most fun!  The group goes bowling, plays outdoor sports, go to Six Flags and the corn maze, etc. The annual car wash fundraiser is fun too! Each new school year starts off with a day at Lake Lanier. Mountaintop experiences like lock-ins, mission trips, and retreats can be a time of feeling especially close to God. Lock-ins include fun activities like jumping at the trampoline park, dinner, then games and maybe some sleep.

Synod Ministry

Cross of Life youth have the opportunity to participate in the events and leadership of the Southeastern Synod Lutheran Youth Organization (SESLYO). In addition to attending the annual Synod Assembly, youth also participate in events like AFFIRM and the National Youth Gathering.

Boy Scouts

Cross of Life is the chartering organization for Boy Scout Troop 1717 – a fun and active troop formed in 1992. Anyone from 11-17 can become a Boy Scout and guests are always welcome!
